Philips' Green Product Sales Spike 33% in 2007

Feb. 19, 2008 - Royal Philips Electronics is reporting a 33% increase in demand for its green products in 2007, totaling 5.3 billion Euro in sales. Philips' Green Products portfolio, which includes medical equipment, consumer electronics, and household and personal care goods, focuses on environmental performance in the areas of energy use, packaging, hazardous substances, and recycling.

All three of Philips' main product categories – healthcare, lighting, and consumer lifestyle - enjoyed a spike in sales, according to numbers released yesterday in the company's annual sustainability report. The consumer lifestyle category posted the biggest gains, with consumer demand for energy-efficient products driving a 91% increase in sales.

In September, Philips announced its aim to double sales of green products to 30% of total revenues within five years. Green product sales accounted for 20% of total Philips sales in 2007, compared with 15% in 2006.
