Profit Point, Logility Release New Apps for Green Supply Chain Design

April 4, 2008 - The greening of supply chain modeling software continues: Profit Point and Logility are the latest sourcing solutions providers to create environmentally focused add-ons to their suites of supply-chain optimization applications.

Profit Point's new Green Network application enable supply chain managers to include in the analysis process a range of environmental byproducts, including carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, particulates, and wastewater Users can also manage total energy consumption or the type of energy consumed - such as coal, natural gas, hydroelectric, thermal, or wind - in supply chain design. The company's line of supply chain software also includes the Profit Vehicle Router, a system for optimizing transportation routing.

Logility's Voyager Solutions software is designed to help companies reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, and reduce excess inventories thoughout the supply chain. In addition to modeling supply chain networks for better production and distribution, the application enables supply chain managers to increase manufacturing efficiency by tracking specific green key performance indicators (KPIs). The program can also help plan the rollout of greener, more resource-efficient packaging in supply lines.

Why the sudden focus on green supply chain solutions? "Companies are moving beyond thinking about a green supply chain and are setting specific goals and investing in initiatives to improve supply chain operations with a more eco-conscious approach," says Logility CEO Mike Edenfield. "Since these sustainability initiatives touch all areas of the supply chain, each company must evaluate the impact on costs and revenue growth within their specific global network."

Last month, software vendor ILOG released a computer application specifically designed to help companies create supply chains with smaller carbon footprints.
