65% of Companies Lack Green Supply Chain Strategy

Feb. 6, 2008 - A new study finds that two-thirds of companies lack an explicit plan for reducing the environmental impact of their supply chains, BusinessGreen reports. The survey, from management consultancy BearingPoint, quizzed 600 companies reporting at least $100 million in annual revenue on their supply chain efforts.

While 83% of respondents claim that environmental considerations factor into supply chain decisions, only 35% say their company has a clear green supply-chain policy, citing a lack of information on best practices and regulatory considerations. Two-thirds say they have not taken any action to green their supply chains.

"The question for businesses is whether to act now, on their own terms, or wait to be forced to do so later, either by legislation or, just as likely, a need to catch up with the competition," says Laurence Dupras, director of supply chain services at BearingPoint.
