Xerox Creates Own Eco-Label for Green Papers

Sept. 24, 2008 - With several new recycled-content office papers now on offer, Xerox has created an eco-label to help customers quickly locate the company's environmentally preferable printing options.

Xerox’s label will group all its eco-friendly paper offerings (many already carrying labels from third-party certifiers including the Forest Stewardship Council, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) for easy recognition. Xerox's label will be accompanied by a description of the paper’s benefits and a link to the company’s new customer sustainability web portal.

Xerox's new Paper and Supplies Sustainability website provides resources to help customers assess their paper choices and the environmental impact throughout the paper's lifecycle. Tools include a paper reference guide, tips for "greener" printing, webcasts from industry experts discussing sustainability practices, and links to Xerox's environmental initiatives.

"The paperless office is far from a reality as businesses still depend on the printed page for communications and information sharing," says Frank Edmonds, senior vice president, Xerox Supplies Business Group. "Our job at Xerox is not only to provide the best technology and services for managing documents but also to help our customers print what they need in the most environmentally responsible way. It's a logical role for Xerox to play."

To mark the launch of Xerox’s new eco-label, the company is introducing additional papers in North America and Europe that are independently certified to sustainable forest management standards. In addition to its line of eco-friendlier papers, the company also has a line of greener toners.
