Xerox Papers Earn Chain-of-Custody Certification

Dec. 12, 2007 Select Xerox office paper products have earned chain of custody certification from both the Forest Stewardship Council and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, two nonprofit organizations that support sustainable forestry through stringent production-monitoring schemes.

FSC- and PEFC-certified products are tracked from harvest through end distribution. (While any customer can buy certified paper products, commercial printers that use FSC- or PEFC-endorsed paper must also obtain chain-of-custody certification.) Products carrying the FSC or PEFC logo have been manufactured using raw materials harvested from certified sources, controlled wood sources, or post-consumer reclaimed sources.

Xerox now operates 80 FSC- and PEFC-accredited distribution centers in 17 countries. It has also achieved certification under FSCs new international multi-site standard, which enables Xerox to track its multinational chain-of-custody operations using a single online database system.

In July, the company unveiled a new "high-yield" office paper that requires less energy and few chemicals to manufacture.

Xerox will launch its first chain-of-custody certified products in early 2008.
